Language Survey 2006 - Prize Draw and Interim Results

The online language survey, launched on the European Day of Languages by the Northern RLNs, closed in December with 2756 responses. This was a fantastic result, and a report with the findings from the survey will be available in March.  The interim results (taken one month after the survey was launched) are available to download from the Language Skills Data Section of our website at www.rln-northeast.com/lmi.

The prize draw took place after the survey had closed in December. RLN NE was pleased to congratulate Ian Ramsay as the First prize winner of two flights to Krakow. A full list of prize winners can be also be found on the Language Skills Data pages of our website, here.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of the final report please email your contact details to info@rln-northeast.com

Lord Dearing Review on Languages - Consultation Deadline

Lord Dearing published his interim report on languages in December. The report was commissioned to advise the government as to what action should be taken about the severe fall in numbers continuing with the study of modern foreign languages at Key Stage 4.

The provisional proposals will be subject to extensive consultation with school heads, teachers and other stakeholders before he makes his final recommendations in February next year.

Those wishing to respond to the consultation on Lord Dearing's languages review have until the end of the month to do so.  While the review was set up to look at what steps might be taken to increase take-up of languages post-14, responses are invited from all sectors. This can be done on-line or via e-mail and provides the opportunity to comment on various aspects of language education. The final report will be published in March 2007.

Consultation deadline: Wednesday 31 January 2007
